After the release of the new song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the South Indian big-budget action film KD: The Devil, a heated debate started on social media. The song features actors Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi.
However, after its release, many viewers criticized the song’s language and presentation as ‘indecent’ and ‘sexually suggestive’. Many people demanded a ban on singing and dancing as ‘indecent’. The song was later removed from YouTube.
India’s National Commission for Women has been shaken by the allegations of vulgar lyrics and ugly visuals of the song. In a hearing last Monday, the Commission informed that undermining the dignity of women for the sake of creativity will not be tolerated at all.
After complaints about the song, the National Commission for Women spontaneously filed a case. Film director Prem, lyricist Rakib Alam, and representatives of the production company were present at Monday’s hearing, but actress Nora Fatehi was absent.
Nora Fatehi’s lawyer appeared on her behalf, but the commission did not find it acceptable. The commission has given the actress a final deadline of April 27 to appear before Sasri. On the other hand, actor Sanjay Dutt has also been directed to appear before the commission on April 8.
During the hearing, the chairperson of the National Commission for Women said with great displeasure, ‘Women’s dignity cannot be compromised at all in the name of creativity.’ Although the filmmakers claimed that they did not understand the deep meaning of the lyrics, the Commission rejected that argumentFinally the makers issued a written apology for their mistake and admitted that the song had a negative impact on society. For the next three months, they have promised to do various works for women’s empowerment and submit the report to the commission.
