The hanging body of a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) has been recovered from a student hostel in Dhaka’s Jigatola. His name is Jannat Ara Rumi (30).
Jannat Ara Rumi was the joint coordinator of Dhanmondi police station NCP. His body was recovered on Thursday morning. His home is Patnitala in Naogaon. His father’s name is Zakir Hossain.
NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Tarek Reza said in a Facebook post that Jannat Ara Rumi committed suicide due to threats and cyber bullying by the banned Awami League. In that post, he wrote, it is not suicide, but murder.
Hazaribagh police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Hafizur Rahman told The Circle Buzz that NCP leader Jannat Ara used to work in a private company. She lived alone in a room in that student hostel in Jigatola.
The police went to the hostel after getting the information this morning. The police and the residents of the student hostel called Jannat Ara and got no response. The room was bugged from inside. At one point, the police broke the door and recovered the hanging body of Jannat Ara with a veil wrapped around her neck with a ceiling fan. Later his body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Tarek Reza posted on the social media Facebook verified page about the recovery of Jannat Ara’s body around 11:30 pm. There, he said, Jannat Ara beat up a member of the banned Awami League who wanted to dig up Zia’s grave at Dhanmondi number 32 on the day of the ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s verdict last month. Since then, Awami League has been cyber-bullying, killing and threatening Jannat Ara, Tarek Reza said in his post. In that post, he also wrote, because of this, Jannat Ara committed suicide at night.
In the post on Facebook, Tarek Reza also wrote,
“We do not agree to see this as suicide. It’s murder. Those who ruined my sister’s lifeWe will not let them spend their lives in peace.’
