Tarek Rahman completed the process of getting a voter registration and a national identity card
Tarek Rahman appeared at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon, Dhaka, this Saturday afternoon to complete the process of becoming a voter and registering for a National Identity Card.

Returning to the country after 17 years, the acting chairman of BNP Tarek Rahman completed the process of getting his name added to the voter list and registered in his national identity card.

After visiting the grave of Shaheed Osman Hadi in the Dhaka University area two days after returning from London, he went to the election building in Agargaon surrounded by leaders and workers. There he completed the necessary tasks to register as a voter and obtain a national identity card.

Tarek Rahman will do the necessary work to become a voter on December 27, the BNP said earlier. The Election Commission also prepared in that way.

Tarek Rahman went to the Election Training Institute building located behind the election building around 1 o’clock today. A room on the ground floor of that building provides NID services to expatriates and important persons. Tarek Rahman went to the room to take pictures, take ten fingerprints, an iris, and a signature. Secretary of the Election Commission Akhtar Ahmed was present at this time.

Earlier on Saturday morning, DIG A S M Humayun Kabir of NID wing in the capital’s Agargaon told reporters that the concerned person’s photograph, iris, and fingerprints are taken to become a voter. These are uploaded to EC’s database. A cross-match is made with voter data in the data center. Then a number is generated. This is done in software. It is not possible to say precisely how much time this work will take. Some may take 4 hours, 7 hours, or 10 hours, some may finish in less time.

Bangladesh’s first photo voter roll was produced in 2008 during the post-eleventh caretaker government. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s eldest son Tarek Rahman left Bangladesh for London on 11 September 2008 after his release from prison. As he was abroad, he was not included in the voter list. After that, during the rule of Awami League, he did not come to the country and did not become a the interim government formed after the Awami League was ousted in the July coup last year is proceeding The 13th general election in February. The 11 December election timetable has been announced, and polling will be held on 12 February.

The Election Commission has already finalized the voter list. However, as per the Electoral Roll Act, the EC can at any time include the name of any eligible voter in the Electoral Roll.

Tarek Rahman will contest the upcoming elections from his ancestral area Bogura Sadar (Bogura-6) constituency with the Dhaner Sheesh (Sheaf of Paddy) symbol. Local leaders have already collected nomination papers for him.
