3 Chinese citizens arrested: 363 iPhones (of different models), a huge amount of iPhone spare parts, and 8 bottles of foreign liquor were recovered in this operation based on secret information.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) has arrested 3 Chinese citizens in a novel fraud ring in Dhaka’s Uttara and Nikunja areas.
DB Mirpur Division DC Mahiyuddin Mahmud Sohel told this sensational information in a press conference organized at DMP Media Center on Thursday (8 January) morning.
363 iPhones (of different models), a huge amount of iPhone spare parts, and 8 bottles of foreign liquor were recovered in this operation based on secret information. The market value of these seized iPhones and parts is estimated at 1.75 crore taka.
DC Mahiyuddin Mahmud Sohel said, The roots of this cycle are very deep. Not only these 3 Chinese citizens, but some dishonest domestic mobile phone traders are also directly involved.
He said, ‘Customers should be extra aware while buying an expensive smartphone. The risk of being cheated by buying a phone from a cheap or unauthorized shop is very high.
At present, operations are on to nab other local members involved in this gang. Preparation of cases against the arrested persons on charges of smuggling and fraud is underway.
DB investigation-This is incredible information. The gang used to smuggle iPhone spare parts from abroad into the country. Then they were assembled by the skilled technicians of Dhaka secretly to make a complete iPhone. These phones were packaged like new and sold as original iPhones at high prices in the market.
