Jagannath University branch Chhatra Dal leader Md. Zobaid Hossain’s 18 hours after murder, no case has been filed. Police initially suspect that he was killed due to a love affair.
Police recovered the bloody body of Zobaid Hossain from the stairs of a building in the Armanitola area of Old Dhaka on Sunday night. There were stab marks on his neck. Zobaid was a student of the Statistics Department of Jagannath University for the academic year 2029-20. He was a member of the convening committee of the Jagannath University branch of the Chhatra Dal.
According to classmates and police, Zobaid taught a high school student in a house in the building. After recovering her body, the police took the student to Bangshal Thana for questioning.
Zobaid’s family said they have been trying to file the case since 12 midnight yesterday, but could not file the case till 11 am today, Monday.
Zobaid’s elder brother Enayet Hossain Soikot said, “We wanted to file a case against six people, including the student. But the OC (Officer-in-Charge) of Bangshal Thana advised us not to file a case against so many. He said it would be light if the case is filed against so many.”
When asked about this, Bangshal Thana OC Rafiqul Islam said, “We are ready to take the case. We will take the case in the name of the family that wants to file the case. We have asked the family to discuss with the university teachers and make a decision.”
A police officer of Bangshal Thana said on condition of anonymity that the student had been interrogated initially. During interrogation, he said that Zobaid had been teaching him for a year. Zobaid was loved by the student. His “boyfriend” came to know about this at one stage. Then the student broke up with her “boyfriend”. “Boyfriend” got angry and killed Zobaid on the third floor of the building yesterday afternoon. This young man studies at a Public University and lives in Armanitola.
The police official added that one or two other people could be involved in Zobaid’s murder, as CCTV footage showed two suspects fleeing the scene.
Zobaid’s elder brother Enayet Hossain said”I want justice for my brother’s murder. Quick arrest of the accused in the case.”
The students took out a protest procession from the University Campus last night over the murder incident. They blocked the road from Bahadur Shah Park, Shankharibazar Mor, Judge Court, Raysaheb Bazar Mor to Tati Bazar Mor. 12:30 a.m.-They protested by burning tires in front of Bangshal Thana. They stayed overnight and returned in the morning.
