
The student and Mahir Rahman initially claimed responsibility for killing Zobaid Hossain, a student of Jagannath University (JNU) and member of the convening committee of the branch Chhatra Dal. The murder was planned a month ago. After questioning the accused student and Mahir, the police gave this information.
Tuesday (October 21) morning Bangshal Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rafiqul Islam told reporters that after questioning the accused student and Mahir, they confirmed the plan to kill him.
He said that his student liked the tuition teacher Zobaid Hossain after ending a 9-year-long love relationship. He directly informed his ex-boyfriend, Mahir Rahman, about this. The girl recently lost interest in Zobaid. Then on 25 September he and Mahir together planned to kill Zobaid.
He also said that in the middle of last month, the student told Mahir that Zobaid no longer likes her. After that, they both plan to get him away. On 25 September, they purchased two switchgears and prepared to act. The plan was to attack Zobaid from two sides and kill him.
The OC also said, as planned, Mahir stabbed Zobaid to death under Roushan Villa on Noorbox Road, Armanitola while he was on his way to tuition earlier Sunday (19 October) evening. At that time, his friend Fardin Ahmed Aylan was with him. The student cooperated with Zobaid in all matters including location.
Zobaid, a student of the Department of Statistics of Jagannath University (JNU) for the 2019–20 academic year, went to teach the second-year students of Dhaka Mohanagar Mohila College at around 4:30 PM on the day of the incident. While entering through the gate of the house and climbing the stairs, he was hit on the right side of the neck with a switchgear. Zobaid died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
Police took the girl into custody that night. The next day the main accused Mahir Rahman and his accomplice Fardin Ahmed Aylan-Someone were arrested.
