The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has received information about the irregular transactions of more than 127 crore Tk in the banks of Faisal Karim Masud, the main accused in the murder case of Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi and his related persons. CID informed this information in a press release on Sunday. According to the CID, based on the initial information received, they have started a separate investigation against Faisal Karim related to money laundering.
According to the CID, these unusual transactions were identified by reviewing and analyzing the information received from various law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies. According to the CID, an investigation has been started on the suspicion that this transaction may be related to money laundering, organized crime, or financing of terrorist activities.
According to the notification, CID’s preliminary analysis shows that Faisal Karim and his related persons and institutions have had irregular transactions of more than 127 crore rupees in various banks. Besides, the necessary legal measures are being taken at the earliest to confiscate the accused and his related persons and institutions with about 65 lakh rupees in various banks in favor of the state. Investigations are also on to identify the individuals and organizations who originally provided these funds.
According to the notification, the CID started a shadow investigation on various aspects of the incident immediately after Inqilab Manch convener Osman Hadi was shot in the head at Box Culvert Road, Purana Paltan, Dhaka on 12 December afternoon. After the incident, the Crime Scene Unit reached the spot and collected evidence. The collection of CCTV footage, the recovery of bullet shells used by the killer from the scene, and the various evidence found later are being analyzed through forensic tests.
In this continuation, the CID also seriously reviewed the information on check checkbooks of various banks recovered during the arrest operation. It can be seen that various amounts of money have been mentioned in multiple checkbooks of the accused and his related persons and institutions prime suspect in the shooting of Osman Hadi is Faisal Karim Masud, a former Chhatra League leader. Investigating officials had earlier said that they believed Faisal Karim had crossed the border into India. However, in a press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs today, the top law enforcement officials said that there is no specific information on whether Faisal Karim is in the country or has gone abroad.
Meanwhile, Faisal Karim’s parents, wives, although 10 people including a brother-in-law were arrested, the law enforcement officers could not give any information about him.
