China is ready to increase cooperation with Bangladesh in trade and commerce with special focus on agriculture, jute, marine fisheries and research, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said.

The Chinese minister noted that Muhammad Yunus at his speech at the China-Bangladesh Conference, China has taken the possibility of revival of the jute sector. He said that China imports about $ 100 million worth of jute every year from Bangladesh, which is 10 percent of Bangladesh’s total jute export. This amount can be increased manifold by bringing research and product diversity.
Wang Wentao said the Chinese jute merchants, who were present at the conference shortly after the chief adviser’s speech, decided to launch research on jute products in Bangladesh.
“Our cooperation should not only be confined to the business level, it should also work jointly in research. If Bangladesh participates in this study, then jute will become a very useful product for us,” he said.
The chief adviser said that jute designers in Bangladesh can work jointly with Chinese experts. He praises the sincerity and friendly attitude of the Chinese minister.
