“There are legends of people born with the gift of making music so true, it can pierce the veil between life and death, conjuring spirits from the past and the future…”
The trio— Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, and Ludwig Göransson had once created magic alongside the late legend Chadwick Boseman in the movie Black Panther (My favorite movie from MCU, watched it 4 times). When I heard these 3 names are coming together again, I knew it is going to be something magical..
And Sinners didn’t disappoint, it actually overwhelmed.
The first thing I want to talk about this movie is its music. Ludwig Göransson didn’t only compose music, he summoned spirits..
It felt like the monologue that appeared at the intro of the movie was actually about Ludwig Göransson!
About the starcast, Ryan Coogler selected proper tools as his starcast to make his vision come true in the reality. Michael B. Jordan delivers a commanding dual role, while the supporting cast flows seamlessly through Coogler’s haunting southern gothic vision.
The cinematography was top notch as well, giving tough competition to its music scores. The combination of 65mm IMAX and Ultra Panavision 70 cameras, making it the first movie to be shot with these two formats simultaneously were so visible in the stunning cinematography of the movie!
The only negative side of the movie according to me was the slow pace of its first half. But from the juke joint scene, the film takes off like wildfire and it justified the slow burn of the first half!
But the most bittersweet part remains that I couldn’t watch this film on the big screen and that hurts. This movie deserved to be felt in a theatre’s silence..
To my final verdict, Sinners is going to dominate the upcoming award ceremonies, specially for its music composition..
I’ll be surprised if Ludwig doesn’t walk away with at least one golden statue!
Watched a movie after so long that kept me awed for a whole night.
