“Hope is a good thing, perhaps the best thing. And something good never dies.”
Spoiler Alert!
The Shawshank Redemption is not a story about escape from jail. It is a kind of liberation story. Where love, friendship and inevitable are the flowers of ‘hope’.
At the center of this movie, Andy Dufresne is a quiet-covered banker who was imprisoned for murder of his wife.
On the other hand there is RED, an experienced prisoner, whose prison is older than every brick.
The captivity here is not just an iron shelter, it is a mental slavery, which causes the wall to be rubbed every day.
Positive Aspects:
- Hope vs. Reality-Dupona of Andy and RED:
Andy is the idol of mute hope. Every step of it is quietly moving towards the future, as if he knows that there is sky on the back of the wall.
And RED? He is a lonely viewer who faces the real, who slowly learn from Andy – is never dangerous.
- Friendship is another form of silent love:
The friendship of Andy and RED ‘is a pinch of light in the darkness of prison. They are so respectful of each other, dependent that the two lost souls have again found their own way.

- One Of The Last Scene Is A Silent Explosion:
The last 15 minutes of the movie, they are not just movies, a single poem. As long as you don’t understand the journey of the Andy, the movie doesn’t really end.
The last ship, not just see that beach, will remember all your life.
- Narration And Script:
Each dialog woven in the voice of Morgan Freeman is like a psychological therapy.
“Geology is the study of pressure and time.
In this movie, the dialogues go beyond the scene and touch the soul.
- Cinematography and Environment:
Every scene in the jail is like a picture. Gray, loneliness, but still a strange beauty is spread in each corner.
Negative aspects (if something is to say):
- Slowness:
Those who are accustomed to watching fast-paced movies can lose a little patience at first. But after waiting a little, that patience becomes love.
- The jail-life is supervised ideally shown:
So much humanity in real prison, it is difficult to find such a perfect relationship. But again, this is the movie – not the reality, the heart is touched above the real.
In the last words:
The Shawshank Redemption is a piece of life. It teaches “hope”, it is the thing that teaches to look at the sky from inside the prison.
This is the movie – where the hero does not cry, blood does not shed – but in the last scene you will be forced to wet your eyes.
Seeing it means discovering yourself.
And the most important thing – it proves, “Hope is a weapon, if you know how to wield it.”
“Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.”
