BCB announced the decision to form a committee to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment brought by national women’s cricketer Jahanara Alam against Manjurul Islam, the former selector and manager of the Bangladesh women’s team, on Thursday night. It was informed that the committee will submit the inquiry report and recommendations within 15 working days. After two days, the BCB announced the names of the three-member committee tonight.
The three-member committee is convened by retired judge Tariq ul Hakim of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. The other two members of the committee are BCB’s only woman director Rubaba Dowla and senior Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla. Barrister Sarwat is also the President of the Bangladesh Women’s Sports Federation.
Australia-based Jahanara Alam claimed in an interview with a YouTube channel that Manjurul sexually harassed her with immoral proposals. Mentioning the names of some others, he said, they ruined his career. Jahanara Alam complained that these incidents which happened for more than one and a half years from 2021, were reported to the top level of BCB but did not get any remedy.
However, Manjurul claimed yesterday that Jahanara’s allegations are baseless and false. Manjurul said that he is ready to face the investigation committee after coming to the country.
I am ready to come to Bangladesh anytime. I will come when you say. I will do what the investigation committee tells me.
The ICC committee was given after BCB president Aminul Islam returned to the country after attending its meeting this evening.
