
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting aims to end the war in Ukraine, the deadliest in Europe since World War II. At the beginning of the meeting, Putin said that if Europe wants to start a war with Russia, they will be defeated quickly.
The meeting took place at the Kremlin in Moscow, the capital of Russia, on Tuesday local time. At the beginning, Putin told Witkoff and Kushner, “I’m very happy to have you.” In response, Witkoff said, “This (Moscow) is a wonderful city.” Later, Putin met with the two. Two aides of the Russian President – Kirill Dmitriev and Yuri Ushakov were present at this time.
Since coming to power in January of this year, Trump has been eager to stop the war in Ukraine. He has talked to Putin and Zelensky about this. Recently, Trump’s proposed 28-point peace plan came out. However, several points of the plan were changed after complaints from Ukraine and the country’s European allies that it was pro-Russian.
Before the meeting, Putin said that Europe wants to undermine Trump’s peace plan. They are making proposals which they know Russia will not accept. Europe is in favor of war. If they suddenly want to start a war and start it, the war will end so quickly that there will be no one left to negotiate with Russia.
Putin has also threatened to block Kyiv’s access to the Panipat Strait in response to Ukraine’s attack on Russian vessels operating under cover in the Black Sea. Referring to his threat, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Putin’s comments show he is not ready to stop the war.
