A large-scale protest started outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India on Tuesday (23 December). Local media reported that the protest was being held in Mymensingh in protest of the recent lynching of a garment worker named Dipu Chandra Das after he was beaten to death on charges of blasphemy.
According to Indian media NDTV, the protests are being led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal.
Delhi Police has beefed up security outside the High Commission in the wake of the protests. However, several protesters were seen breaking the barricades and moving towards the diplomatic establishment.
According to reports, the protesters managed to break down at least two levels of barricades. Several protesters were also seen holding banners and placards and chanting slogans in front of the embassy.
NDTV reported that security agencies were already on high alert following news of the protest and tight security measures were taken outside the building to avoid any untoward incident.
According to reports, the area has been secured with three layers of barricading. Besides, members of the Police and Paramilitary Forces have been deployed to control the crowd.
Earlier, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam held a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma appointed in Dhaka.
Tuesday (23 December) at 10:00 AM Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs-He was summoned. Diplomatic sources have confirmed this information.
