Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a special notification for the regularization (listing) of all unsold handsets in the country’s market by December 15.
This decision was made in a meeting with representatives of the Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB) regarding the import of mobile phones and the registration of a Vendor License at the BTRC office in Agargaon, the capital, on Tuesday, BTRC stated in a notification.
According to the notification, the meeting discussed in detail how to simplify the process of importing mobile phones and providing the Vendor Enlistment Certificate. In view of this, three decisions have been taken.
The decisions are—
- To prevent infiltration of clone/copy/used/refurbished mobile handsets from abroad into Bangladesh by submitting minimum documents and providing the Vendor Enlistment Certificate within a short period of time, only the original manufacturing company of the mobile phone as well as any authorized distributor (Authorized Distributor) along with the application (instead of the contract) will be approved for import easily from BTRC.
- At the same time, MBCB will provide a clear written proposal outlining how to simplify the import process by ensuring that clone/copy/used/refurbished mobile handsets are not smuggled into Bangladesh.
- In view of the demand for MBCB, for the purpose of regularizing all the unsold mobile handsets existing in the Bangladesh market till December 15, if the relevant information is submitted in the prescribed table, necessary steps will be taken from BTRC in this regard.
The notification also said, ‘Guidelines for the use, marketing and listing of wireless equipment 2024’ if the mobile phones are legally imported, all the concerned institutions will be given full cooperation from BTRC.
